Jesús J. Torres

Attorney

Jesús J. Torres is an accomplished lawyer with more than two decades of experience handling complex, high-stakes litigation. His practice focuses on catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, product liability, toxic tort, and mass tort cases.

Jesús represents individuals and families whose lives have been permanently altered by negligence and corporate misconduct. He approaches each case with a straightforward principle: powerful institutions must be held to the same rules as everyone else. That commitment informs every stage of his work—from the initial investigation and development of liability theories to expert discovery, settlement negotiations, and trial.

Before dedicating his practice to representing injured plaintiffs, Jesús spent more than a decade defending Fortune 100 and Fortune 500 companies, national manufacturers, and global insurance carriers at two prominent Am Law 100 firms, Alston & Bird LLP and Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP. There, he handled sophisticated product liability, mass tort, toxic exposure, and catastrophic injury litigation throughout the country.

That experience now provides Jesús with a distinct advantage on the plaintiff’s side. He understands how corporations and insurers investigate claims, evaluate risk, retain experts, develop defenses, and prepare cases for trial. More importantly, he understands where those defenses are vulnerable. Jesús uses that knowledge to anticipate the opposition’s strategy, expose weaknesses in its evidence, and build cases capable of withstanding the most aggressive defense.

His work has produced more than $70 million in recoveries over the past three years alone, including multiple seven- and eight-figure results. Among those recoveries are:

  • $36 million for a child who suffered catastrophic injuries after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street. The resolution is believed to be the largest single-plaintiff personal injury settlement in Fresno County history.
  • $7.1 million against the County of San Diego for a client who sustained a complex traumatic brain injury in a head-on automobile collision.
  • $2.95 million for a client who suffered severe injuries in a dog attack.
  • Multiple additional seven-figure recoveries in catastrophic injury and wrongful death matters.

Jesús’s results have been recognized on California’s lists of top verdicts and settlements. He was also selected by the Los Angeles Business Journal as one of its “Minority Attorneys of Influence.”

Earlier in his career, Jesús was invited to join the International Association of Defense Counsel, a selective professional organization whose membership includes accomplished attorneys and insurance executives from around the world. His professional affiliations have also included the Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles, the Hispanic National Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. He has served in leadership roles with the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the Hispanic National Bar Association.

Jesús is known for approaching difficult cases with creativity, discipline, and an unwavering willingness to confront powerful defendants. He does not rely on conventional assumptions about what a case is worth or how it should be litigated. He investigates deeply, develops the evidence methodically, and prepares every significant matter with trial in mind.

For Jesús, however, effective representation requires more than technical skill. Clients facing catastrophic injuries or the death of a loved one are often confronting the most difficult period of their lives. He believes they deserve a lawyer who will listen to them, tell their story with dignity, and remain accountable to them throughout the litigation. His objective is not merely to obtain compensation but to restore security, demand accountability, and help families begin rebuilding their lives.

Outside the courtroom, Jesús serves his community as an executive board member of the Adventist Health Simi Valley Hospital Foundation, where he supports efforts to expand access to quality healthcare. He is fluent in Spanish and is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor, automobile enthusiast, and devoted and long-suffering Chicago Bears fan.
